Religious Education

At Barnby Road Academy we teach Religious Education according to the Nottinghamshire Agreed Syllabus. Children are encouraged to develop an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities, societies and cultures and to develop a positive attitude towards other people and their beliefs.

The main world religions explored are:

Foundation stage - Christianity

Year 1 & 2 - Christianity and Judaism

Year 3 & 4 - Christianity and Hinduism

Year 5 & 6 - Christianity and Islam

In RE lessons we aim:

  • to encourage children to develop their own world view
  • to enable children to value both their own and others’ spiritual responses
  • to encourage children to respect the belief’s of others
  • to enable children to develop lively enquiring minds and an ability to question and argue rationally
  • to assist children to understand the world in which they live and appreciate human achievements and aspiration which have contributed to the making of our world
  • to understand that the society in which we live is made up of different types of people with different beliefs but that everyone is valued and respected
  • to develop an awareness of the fundamental questions of life raised by human experience
  • to use ICT to explore aspects of different religions
