‘Where everyone is able to achieve their best’

Maple - Miss Leggett

Welcome to Maple Class!

We are taught by Miss Leggett.

Miss Collinson covers PPA time and teaches on a Wednesday afternoon.

Our P.E. day is a Monday afternoon!

We will also be going swimming every Friday morning! To make sure we get as much time as possible in the pool, children should come to school with their swimming clothes under their school uniform and bring underwear in their bags for after.

Spelling tests will be every Thursday and homework always given on Friday.

Look out for our newsletters for extra information about our year group.

This term in English we will be exploring various texts. Our first focus is the Egyptian Cinderella story, during which we will develop skills of characterisation and introduce expanded noun phrases. Following this, we will be writing instructions for the process of mummification! A gruesome but exciting step by step guide.

After the half term we will be introduced to a new text; Secrets of a Sun King. A fictional tale linked to our topic.

The focus of the first half term will be fractions and decimals. These can be found in everyday life, whether this is sharing a cake into equal slices (though who really wants to share cake?), or using decimals points in monetary amounts.

Although we will be practicing our times table knowledge in school, any extra time you can spend on these at home would be very helpful. We will be investigating factors of numbers and moving on to the grid method to work out multiplication problems.

We are exploring the three states of matter - solids, liquids and gases. As well as identifying the features of the three states, we will also explore how items can change state through heating or cooling. We will investigate temperature, using thermometers to measure in degrees celsius.

This term the children of Year 4 will be performing a play - Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies.

Following our amazing trip to Sherwood Forest, we wanted to keep the story of Robin Hood alive. We are very exciting to begin rehearsals after half term and perform to you on Wednesday 30th March!
