Welcome to Barnby Road Academy. We are a diverse, friendly and vibrant school where children are encouraged to be happy, confident and independent learners. Our high expectations help every child recognise their strengths, embrace new challenges and reflect on how they can continue to grow.

We offer a rich and varied curriculum, giving children memorable experiences—from outdoor adventures to exciting trips and a thriving music provision that includes ukulele lessons, four choirs and our forty‑piece orchestra.

Our values-based approach creates a nurturing, positive environment where wellbeing is at the heart of school life. With dedicated staff and spacious indoor and outdoor learning areas, we provide a stimulating setting in which children can flourish.

We work closely with our families and value the strong partnerships that help every child reach their full potential.

Welcome from the Chair of Governors

I am delighted to introduce myself as the Chair of The Barnby Road Trust and also the Chair of Governors at Barnby Road Academy.  As Chair I lead a team of highly motivated and committed team of Governors made up of parents, staff members and representatives from our community.  We are dedicated to supporting and challenging the academy to ensure that all students achieve their best not only in academic subjects but in all areas of school life.  We also ensure that staff receive the support and encouragement  they need to reach this goal.

We attend regular governors meetings and also visit the academy to keep fully up to date with the strategic running of he school.  We work closely with the excellent staff team to monitor wellbeing, educational progress, financial and statutory compliance and different aspects of the curriculum.

I have been a governor at Barnby Road for a number of years and have also held this role at other schools in the Newark area.  I have had 2 children attend this excellent school and currently have a grandchild here.  My background is in welfare benefits and I pride myself in being able to empathise with parents.  I welcome contact from parents and encourage feedback on what we do well and what we could improve.
