‘Where everyone is able to achieve their best’

History

History at Barnby Road

At Barnby Road, we will ensure our history has a bespoke local perspective, which engages children in the local community in a way that inspires pride and fosters a passion for learning about the past and historical events.

Our history content across the school is not taught in chronological order as younger children are not ready to learn history chronologically. Therefore at Barnby Road we fit history to the child, not the child to history. Our content broadly follows the National Curriculum and has been constructed so that each year group in Key Stage 2 studies one aspect of history which includes strong local links. Within each topic, the content will be taught with a strong chronological element using historical terms.

History at Barnby Road will ensure that pupils make progress through each year group, acquiring and applying key knowledge, so that they at least meet the agreed age expectations in a subject and develop a life-long passion about the importance of the past. Barnby Road aims to foster a keen awareness of the past and how it influences children’s own understanding of our diverse curriculum.
