From the Head Teacher, Mr Kevin Eveleigh OBE.
<div>Welcome to our Web Site. I hope you will find it full of useful information about our school whether you are an existing pupil or parent or a prospective one. We've tried to include something for everyone.</div>
<div>We were one of, if not the first Primary School Academy in the country.</div>
<div>What is an academy?
Its very new and everyone asks us this. We're still a state school offering free education to any child who meets our admission criteria. We're not selective and serve our catchment like any normal Notts School. The only differences are the way we're funded and a little more curriculum freedom to plan exciting topics. We receive your child's budget allocation directly from the DFE not the County, we believe it gives the tax payer in our catchment a better deal for their child because we have smaller overheads than LEA's.
Why would I choose Barnby Road Academy?
...apart from having chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs?
OFSTED has given us "Outstanding" status twice in the last six years, but its the opinions of our parents and children that matter most to us.
I think this school has a real sense of community and represents a truly comprehensive mix of families, from all walks of life. We love that mix and it works for us.
Our children are friendly, open and polite, well–behaved, sharing a sense of achievement that our teachers and teaching assistants have all worked hard to create. Ask any Barnby pupil what they do at Barnby Road School and they will reply, "Achieve our Best"; not only a glib phrase but something re-enforced, deeply learnt, and encouraged in every Barnby child from day one. BUT... just in case you miss it, it's written in big letters across our smart royal blue uniform.
Our teachers are a good blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm, ably supported in every class by a superb team of teaching assistants and at lunch-times by ten mid-day supervisors.
We are proud of our welcoming inclusion policy; if your child is in our catchment area, he/she should be served by our school and part of our community regardless of level of need, and special needs are well catered for across all ages.
Add to all of that a wonderful nursery (foundation stage), three times highly praised by OFSTED for its level of care, and then our own unique purpose built school in a beautiful spacious site; and you have a flavour as to why this has become such a happy, vibrant and proud community with an eye to an exciting future.
We want your child to do well and to do it with a big smile, our attendance figures are excellent and the vast majority of our children say they love coming to school. The allotment, hens, rabbits and guinea pigs, the play apparatus, the evening park?...we're trying to make our site as childhood friendly as possible.
Please scroll down on this page to read our brochure... but don't take my word for it, explore the web site or best of all, come and see for yourself, you'll be very welcome.</div>
