Tigers' Extinction Animations
We have been learning about how dinosaurs might have become extinct. We worked as a group to make a background to show one of the extinction theories. Then we used the ipad to create an animation.

In Year 1 we have been enjoying learning about dinosaurs in our new topic. This week we have been learning about fossils and the job of a palaeontologist. We found out about a famous palaeontologist called Mary Anning. Have a look below to see how we have been exploring fossils and pretending to be palaeontologists...

Fairytale Day in Year 1

Autumn Gruffalo

Year 1 have been learning about the four seasons. We went on a walk around the school field and wildlife area to look for signs of autumn. Lion class saw leaves on the trees were turning different colours such as brown and orange and some leaves had fallen off the trees. It was getting cold and we had to zip our coats all the way up! We then collected lots of natural resources to make into our very own Gruffalos. Have a look at some pictures of Lion class enjoying their autumn work below.

Superhero day

Year 1 had a Superhero day to celebrate all of our learning in our Superhero topic.

Everyone in Lion class had so much fun and it was great to see so many different costumes. After a busy morning making superhero biscuits, gadgets and logos, we practised our Superhero skills in a special Superhero P.E. lesson. Have a look at some pictures of Lion class showing off their Superhero skills.

For PE this year children will need two PE kits. One for their outdoor lesson and one for their indoor lesson. Please ensure that these in school all of the time and any jewellery is removed.

Indoor PE:  Indoor kit should consist of a Barnby Road T-shirt and shorts. Plimsolls can only be worn for indoor PE if the teacher has received a parental letter informing them of a medical condition that does not allow bare feet to be used.

Outdoor kit: This is the same as for indoors but should also include trainers, and for colder weather blue jogging bottoms and hooded sweatshirt are preferred.

Making a Super Start!

Year 1 children have settled in brilliantly in their new classrooms! Our first topic 'Incredible Me' has been a great introduction to the new curriculum and this week we have been making superhero masks. Look at the brilliant designs created in Meerkat Class below. We planned our masks first and carefully chose our materials and the tools we would need to make them.
