Welcome to Year 3!
We have had a great first term in Year 3. The children have been working hard in maths understanding place value and using column addition and subtraction. If they can keep practising their times tables at home that will support their work next term. In English, they have created amazing story settings, written poetry and even escaped from Pompeii. At home, practising spellings and asking questions about their reading books will further their development. The children have learnt about many aspects of Roman life this term and all seemed to enjoy our Roman day. Year 3 have investigated 'Rocks and Soils' in Science this term and have begun the next topic of 'Light and Shadows' that will continue after Christmas. We will also begin our Topic 'Food and Forces' after Christmas.
Welcome to Year 3!
Year 3 have had a great start to the term with the children settling in quickly. This year our classes have new names. Mrs Gore's class is the Beech class, Ms Greeley's is the Willow class and Mrs Wyatt's is the Oak class.
We are all very excited about our residential trip camping in Perlethorpe. This outdoor adventure should be a memorable experience for the children. We will upload photos to this page following the trip.
This term's topic work includes some geography (countries and continents) and learning about the Roman Empire. We will be investigating rocks and soils in Science and learning some basic words and phrases in French. In English, our writing will be inspired by Katie Morag stories, then later escaping from Pompeii and also writing recounts in our non-fiction work. In Maths, we will be beginning by understanding place value and partitioning 3 digit numbers.
We look forward to meeting you all properly at the parent's evenings in October.
