Year 6 Home Learning

Whilst school is closed, please use the following to continue your child’s learning at home. If you have any queries/problems please initially contact your child's class teacher -

Alternatively, you can contact Mr Barbuti, Upper KS2 Manager:

Your child has been given a pack to take home which is prepared with Reading, SPaG and maths focused worksheets. In the front of the folders, you will find children’s passwords and usernames for various platforms they can access:

TTRockstars / Numbots     -           quick-fire & fun times table and number fluency activities

IXL                                         -           SPaG, comprehension and maths activities

Read Theory                        -           reading comprehension set at your child’s level

Purple Mash                        -           a range of cross-curricular activities

We want all Year 6 children to complete the following on a daily basis as a minimum:

60 minutes English:

  • one ’60 Second Read’ activity to increase reading fluency and comprehension skills  (10 minutes)
  • Read Theory or reading comprehension activity from the pack  (20 -30 minutes)
  • SPaG activities – either on IXL website or using worksheets from the pack  (20-30 minutes)

60 minutes Maths:

  • one ‘Fluent in Five’ mental arithmetic activity  (10 minutes)
  • TT Rockstars website – each class has activities set up in the ‘Sessions’ section   (20 minutes)
  • maths activities on IXL or using worksheets from the pack   (30 minutes)

Please encourage your children to attempt activities or skills that they need practice in, rather than just choosing activities in which they are already confident.

In addition to this we also want all children to continue reading at least 3 times every week and getting their homework diary signed. We also want children to practice their current spellings for 10 minutes every day.

This is also a fantastic opportunity for children to develop an existing skill or even a new one:

  • Practising a musical instrument or a sports skill.
  • Learn a new skill such as juggling, drawing or baking
  • Keep fit by going for a run or doing exercises (if you are allowed out of the house!)
  • Make something!

Please record your child’s home learning every day in their Home School Diaries.

Thanks for your support. We hope this helps the children to stay engaged and active during the period when schools are closed. If the school remains closed for a significant period, we will look to supplement work by making activities available for you to print from the Year 6 area of the website.
