What a morning some of our Year 5s had at the Saint-Gobain, archaeological dig!
The children got to investigate the site of round houses, examined a roman skeleton - in situ - and even got to di some 'real' archaeology, using a trowel to uncover the past. They found a great deal too... some of which they got to keep!
Year 5 Maths Open Morning
Wow! What a great response to our Maths open morning! Twenty five parents and relatives joined their children in the classroom today to see what maths lessons look like at Barnby Road. Lots of fun was had by all playing bingo, solving puzzles and playing games. Feedback was really positive with comments like: 'I didn't do that until secondary school and these children understood it', 'the children were really enjoying maths' and 'lots of specific maths words were used confidently'. Thank you to all who came!
A couple of parents asked for guidance on how we do calculations. Remember that there is a Parent's Calculation Policy on the school website in the 'Curriculum' and 'Maths' folder.
Year 5 Magnus Maths Challenge
We sent 2 teams of three children to a maths challenge at the Magnus School. Ben Doubell, Alfred Lamey, Jolene Cai, Sidney Harris, Jaden King and Henry Gibson represented the school fantastically. They were a real asset to the school showing their mathematical capabilities so well. Team 1 won overall and brought back a fantastics trophy. Team 2 came 5th out of 10 teams. Amazing job!!
Well done teams!!
