PSHE and RSE at Barnby Road

At Barnby Road, we will ensure our PSHE supports well-being and value for all stakeholders in a way that promotes individuality within a safe environment.

Our PSHE content across the curriculum follows the JIGSAW scheme, which is taught discretely and embedded throughout day-to-day in an age and stage-appropriate way, responding to children’s needs. Jigsaw PSHE is more than a scheme of work; It is a whole-school philosophy with children at its heart.

Each term has a unique theme, focusing on important developmental stages. The scheme encompasses many aspects of what it is to be a culturally sensitive and respectful member of their community and beyond. It aids children in emotional literacy by focusing on the teaching of mindfulness and the feeling of being grounded.

PSHE at Barnby Road will ensure that pupils make progress through each year group, acquiring and applying key knowledge, so that they at least meet the agreed age expectations. We aim to equip children with relevant and meaningful content, which is supported through a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health. With an ever changing society, we are able to provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and support them in playing a positive role in contributing to the school and the wider community now and on in to the future.
