Music is prioritised at Barnby Road Academy. Every child accesses a weekly singing session run by our pianist Peter Higgins. In key stage 1 percussion instruments are used within the classroom to begin developing listening, performing and composing skills. Year 3 and 4 children learn the recorder and Years 5 and 6 have weekly ukulele sessions to continue to develop performing and composing skills. There is a whole school singing assembly on a Thursday morning during which children in Years 4-6 can choose to attend our large Senior choir.
We are very proud of our school orchestra of 30+ children that plays for a number of performances throughout the year. Barnby Road Academy has a range of ensembles and choirs:
Monday: Guitar club 12:15pm (Mr Webster)
Tuesday: Junior choir for Year 2&3 12:30pm (Mr Higgins)
Wednesday: Orchestra 8:15am, Recorder Club 12:30pm (Mrs Wyatt)
Thursday: Chamber choir 8:15am (Mr Higgins), Senior choir Year 4-6 9:45am (Mrs Wyatt), Ukulele club 12:00pm (Mr Higgins)
Instrumental lessons are offered to Key Stage 2 children, dependent on the availability of instruments. We currently have children learning the cello, violin, trumpet, cornet, trombone, French horn, flute, saxophone, clarinet, percussion and piano.
