Geography at Barnby Road

At Barnby Road we will ensure our Geography has local, national and global perspectives respectively as children progress through school. Children will experience a range of enriching activities that aim to create active, culturally sensitive, resourceful and independent learners.

Our Geography content across the school aims to inspire pupils with a life-long curiosity and fascination about the world around them and its people. We aim to develop children‘s Geographical enquiry skills and their Physical, Human and Geographical knowledge. We want our children to gain confidence and have practical experiences of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time. We utilise the school grounds and local area to develop Geographical skills, vocabulary and knowledge.

Geography at Barnby Road will ensure that pupils make progress through each year group, acquiring and applying key knowledge, so that they at least meet the agreed age expectations in a subject.  We aim to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and people within it; to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
