Starting Nursery can be a very daunting time for many children and parents. Often children will not have spent very much time away from home and it can be difficult for them to say goodbye to their parents/carers initially. They do tend to settle quite quickly and we will always contact you if they don't settle after a short period of time. The staff are very experienced with this and will support you with your child's transition.
Children are often used to having an adult to help them with simple tasks e.g. putting on their coat, using the toilet, washing their hands. When at Nursery, we encourage children to develop their independence as much as possible. At home they may have an adult to help them at all times. However, at Nursery each adult is looking after 13 children so it is very helpful if you can start to encourage your child to become more independent with tasks as they start Nursery.
Have a look at the documents below to see how you can help your child to settle into Nursery.
