Principles
This policy sets out how the admission system for places in Barnby Road Academy Nursery works.
We aim to deliver flexible care and education in a way which supports all parents and assists those who work and those seeking to work.
If you require any further help or explanation about anything contained here, please contact our school office on 01636-683900.
Eligibility
Your child can stay in Nursery until the end of the academic year following their 4th birthday.
Attendance at Barnby Road Academy Nursery does not guarantee a school place at Barnby Road Academy. However, it does put you higher in the criteria ranking than children who apply who don’t attend our Nursery.
Parents must apply separately for a school place to Nottinghamshire County Council for Barnby Road Academy or an alternative school of their choice.
We are able to offer places to children taking up their entitlement to universal government funded hours of 15 hours per week.
We are able to offer sessions of 30 hours per week to working parents of 3- and 4-year-olds, who meet the eligibility criteria (please see https://www.gov.uk/childcare-calculator for further information) and are approved in accordance with our Nursery Admissions Policy.
It is very important that parents who think they’re eligible for the 30 hours extended funding apply using the on-line checker on the Government website mentioned above, the term before their child is due to start Nursery, e.g. those starting in the Autumn term must apply during the summer term. If successful, they will be given an on-line eligibility code which must be given to the school when completing the schools ‘Offer of a Nursery place’ form. This code must be rechecked before the end of every term ready for the new term.
Admission Criteria
Admission Schedule
Admissions are three times a year, for as long as places are available. Funding and entitlement are based on a three-term year, with children starting in September (birthday between April – August), January (birthday between September – December) and April (birthday between January – March).
Parents will be notified that a place is available for their child no later than half a term in advance, unless a place becomes unexpectedly available during the term.
Admission procedure
To apply for a Nursery place, parents should complete an application form and return it to the school office. Parents should give all information in order to assist in the allocation of places.
When a place is available, the school will inform applicants the half term before the child is due to start Nursery.
Parents will need to accept the Nursery place and submit proof of residency and a copy of the child’s birth certificate to prove parental responsibility.
All children who take up a place at our Nursery will receive a home visit from a member of the Nursery staff. This is a chance to ask any questions regarding this important phase of their child’s life.
Session Timings
15 hours AM Nursery – 8.30am – 11.30am
15 hours PM Nursery – 12.30pm – 3.30pm
30 hours Nursery – 8.30am – 3.30pm, with 1 hour lunchtime
Breakfast Club – 7.30am – 8.45am
Afterschool Club – 3pm – 6pm
Charging for Nursery places
If parents, who are entitled to the 30 hours free provision, are offered and accept a full day place in the nursery, THEY WILL BE CHARGED THE ADDITIONAL LUNCHTIME HOUR AS THIS TIME DOES NOT COUNT AS EDUCATIONAL PROVISION. The charge made is levied in line with the school’s Charging Policy.
Breakfast Club and Afterschool Club are available at a charge for Nursery children.
Parents who wish to take their child home over the lunchtime period are entitled to do so.
Parents can either send a packed lunch for their child or purchase a school meal, if their child is staying in the Nursery at lunchtime.
