‘Where everyone is able to achieve their best’

Spring Term

This half term in Nursery, we have been learning all about oral health and the importance of brushing our teeth. The children have explored how and why we need to keep our mouths healthy, with a particular focus on good tooth-brushing habits.

We would like to say a big thank you to London Road Dental Practice for kindly donating toothbrushes and toothpaste for the children to use during their play. The children put their learning into action by running their own dentist surgery and practising their brushing skills on the giant teeth – there was lots of enthusiasm and excellent role play on display!

🍕 Inspired by their learning, the children also became mini chefs and made their own pizza dough in Nursery. They then took it home to create their own pizzas with their families. The children followed the dough recipe carefully and made excellent chefs, with plenty of lovely conversation about toppings and flavours along the way.

We hope the pizzas tasted as good as they looked!!

This half-term, we have been learning about the season of Spring. We have enjoyed observing the changes around us and learning more about them. We have read a variety of Spring fiction and non-fiction texts, and through our learning, the children have explored the cycle of the seasons and discussed the changes that happen during Spring. We have been learning about the weather, the increase in daylight, and the signs of new life in nature. We have been thrilled by the children’s intriguing and thoughtful questions and have enjoyed discussing them and finding answers together.

Our learning continued as we created Spring mind maps to capture our ideas and understanding. The children shared what they already knew and what they might expect to see, hear, and smell on a Spring walk around our school. They remembered so much and were especially excited to look for buds, flowers, and insects.

To celebrate our learning, we went on a walk around the school to explore the signs of Spring. We were very fortunate with the lovely weather, which made our Spring walk even more enjoyable. The children had a wonderful time exploring the school grounds and spotting signs of the new season.

We have also learnt about the significance of Easter and how it is celebrated by different people in different ways. This provided another great opportunity to remind ourselves that we are all different, but may choose to do some things in similar ways.

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we delved into the wonderful story The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. After sharing the story together, we spent the week exploring different emotions and making links between our feelings and colours, music and mood.

The children engaged in lots of thoughtful discussions about how colours can represent emotions and how music can change the way we feel. As part of our exploration, we ventured around the school on a colour hunt, collecting a variety of materials to use in our very own Colour Monster collage. The children loved searching for different shades and textures to represent the various feelings from the story.

We also made colour viewers, which allowed us to look at the world in a different way. It was wonderful to see the children’s curiosity as they observed how colours can change what we see and how we feel.

Please take a look at some of our learning — we are so proud of the children’s creativity and thoughtful reflections.
