It was a pleasure to attend the Together for Newark Film awards last night at the Newark Academy. We had 4 groups nominated for the various categories and I am pleased to say that we had one winner in the lower key stage 2 group. Well done to all of the children who took part in the evening. It was great to see some of the amazing films created by the children here at Barnby Road.

  • Wembley Visit June 2016

    Tue 07 Jun 2016 S. Chamberlain
We visited Wembley during half term with 26 year 6 children. It was a wonderful experience and even though it was not the most exciting match the children had a great time and really enjoyed the opportunity. The behaviour was excellent at all times and the horns were very loud!
  • Girls Football

    Thu 19 May 2016 S. Chamberlain
The girls football team had the summer tournament yesterday at a very wet Flowserve. They played excellently all afternoon only losing one match which was the semi-final to the eventual winners Chuter Ede. In the third & fourth place play off they beat John Blow from Collingham to take the bronze medals. Well done to all involved!
  • Creative Arts Showcase

    Thu 19 May 2016 S. Chamberlain
A massive well done to all involved with the Creative Arts Showcase. It was super to see the wonderful talent we have here at Barnby Road in Music, Dance and Drama. I will post some pictures soon on the website when I have met with our resident photographer Esme Nicholson in year 6. Great work everyone!
  • Testing Times

    Thu 12 May 2016 S. Chamberlain
I would like to publicly thank all of the year 6 children for the super attitudes they have demonstrated this week. They have tackled all of the tests given to them with great enthusiasm and a smile on their faces. The bacon butties were excellent, a big thank you to Mrs Beckett and Mrs Oliver for getting them prepared for us. Now the important work begins with the creative arts showcase, end of year play and all of our sporting fixtures. We will be working closely with all of our feeder secondary schools to ensure the transition to year 7 next school year is a smooth process. Well done year 6 we are very proud of you.
  • Wolfit festival

    Wolfit Festival 18th March – 20th March

We are really proud of all the children who took part in this year’s Wolfit festival of Drama and Verse Speaking. This year we had 18 children from Barnby Road take part and we had lots of certificate winners across the year groups!

All the children practised really hard to learn their two poems and they even performed them to the whole school before the Wolfit festival! The children’s performances were of a very high standard and received lots of praise from the adjudicator.

  • Nottinghamshire Indoor Cricket Champions

    Wed 20 Apr 2016 S. Chamberlain

Barnby Road Academy became the 2016 Nottinghamshire Schools Cricket Association indoor county cricket champions, winning the Mick Yard Trophy after a fine performance in the finals which took place in the indoor school at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground on Wednesday 30th March.

The tournament was a county-wide competition with teams representing three separate districts: Nottingham (including Newark), Worksop & Mansfield and Kirkby in Ashfield. 40 teams took part in total.

To reach the county final Barnby Road had to win their district qualifying round before beating Jesse Gray from West Bridgford 138 – 137 and Forest Fields 125 – 114 in the district final on 23rd March.

In the final itself all three qualifying teams played each other, the winner being the team with the most points overall.

Barnby Road produced two outstanding fielding performances to beat St John’s (representing Worksop & Mansfield) 149 – 124 and Annesley Primary (representing Kirkby in Ashfield) 169 – 138.

It is the first time Barnby have won this event and can now claim to be County Indoor Champions in both football and cricket.

The team was Harry Scott (c), Josh Mee, Alfie Horne, Thomas Carter, Sam Greeley, Dean Robinson, Toby White, Jack Oldfield and Harry White.

  • Easter Egg Hunt

    Wed 30 Mar 2016 S. Chamberlain
Many thanks to the Friends group for the super Easter Egg Hunt last Thursday. The children had a wonderful time hunting for the tokens or the other half to their eggs. I have attached some pictures taken during the day.
