  • Christmas Fair

    Mon 08 Dec 2014 S Chamberlain
It was a super evening for the Christmas fair. Many thanks for all of the support and the great attendance on the evening. This truly is a school that is very well supported by its community. We believe we have raised approximately £1750 from the event which we are delighted with. Great job to all involved.
  • Non-uniform day tomorrow

Just a quick reminder that it is non uniform day tomorrow (Thursday 4th December) for the children to bring in gifts for the Christmas fair tombola stall.
  • Football team reach County Semis

Mon 01 Dec 2014 Matt Barbuti

Barnby Road represented Newark & Sherwood at the County 7-a-side finals which took place at Sutton Lawn on Saturday morning. Each of the 8 districts of Nottinghamshire was represented by the strongest team from their respective area. The standard of football was very high and the team played outstandingly to win their group, going through with 5 points form 3 games.

The semi-final pitted us against a strong Whitemoor team from the City. We went 2-0 behind early on only for Josh Burkitt to bring us back to within one goal with a left-foot arrow just before half time. In the second half we pushed for the equaliser but could not quite achieve it.

Thank you to the boys who were exceptional, both in the way they played and also their attitude and sportsmanship. Thank you also to the parents and grandparents who gave up their time on a miserable morning!

  • Super singing from the choir

    Mon 01 Dec 2014 S Chamberlain
It was a pleasure to be able to see the choir singing in the market square yesterday morning and the Parish church for the carol concert in the evening. They were excellent and a credit to the school. Great job all involved the school is very proud of you.
  • Chess Continues to Flourish

Wed 19 Nov 2014 Mr Barbuti

Holy Trinity was the venue for the autumn round of the Newark & District Schools' Chess Championships. Numbers were down on last year with some schools having lost key teaching personnel over the summer, however 15 teams from 7 different schools still attended.

The event was excellently organised and Barnby were one of the strongest groups with competition from Sutton on Trent, Holy Trinity and Highfields in particular.

After the event Barnby 'A' sit in 2nd place on 9pts (only 1/2 point behind the leaders), the 'B' team are in 3rd on 8pts; 'C' team 5th on 7pts and 'D' team jt7th on 6pts.

All children played brilliantly in what is an intimidating atmosphere for rookies.

Special mentions to Josh Ridyard, Gabriel Jenkins, Lucy Finch and Josh Mee who all received medals for winning all 3 of their matches.

The behaviour of our children was impeccable and was commented on by other schools. Well done to everyone!

Spring and summer rounds will be played before the Newark Champions are determined in June.

  • Fluctuating Football Fortunes

Wed 19 Nov 2014 Mr Barbuti

The A team travelled to Arnold Mill on Wednesday 12th November winning a fiercely fought encounter 3-1 on penalties, after 50 minutes play had failed to produce a goal. It is always unfortunate for any team to lose in this way but the boys are delighted to still be in the county's flagship tournament at the business end of the season.

Domestic form has not been so stable; both teams put up their weakest performances of the season against Coddington on Monday afternoon, the A team losing 2-1 and the B team losing 2-0. The B team remain in a strong position but the A team no have their work cut out to finish in the top three.

At county level the A team will be representing Newark at the Nottinghamshire Individual Schools 7-a-side tournament at Sutton in Ashfield on Saturday 29th November and the squad starts indoor training next Monday for their county 5-a-side tournament which takes place in early January.

League action will resume after Christmas.

  • Netballers Runners Up

    Mon 17 Nov 2014 S Chamberlain
The Netball team were in action on Saturday in the Autumn Tournament. They were in a very tough opening group and after some great performances came out as group winners with three wins and a draw against a very strong Winthorpe team. In the quarter finals they beat a good Bleasby side before overcoming a determined John Hunt team in the semi finals. In the final they came back across the super Winthorpe team who they had held to a draw in the group stages but unfortunately they were just too strong for us this time and beat us in the final. The girls were a credit to the school throughout the morning and we are very proud of their achievements. Well done to all involved.
  • Newark Champions

Sat 18 Oct 2014 Mr Barbuti

Barnby football team played to their potential this morning claiming their first trophy of the season by winning the Flowserve Autumn tournament. The group stages were incredibly tight but after a couple of below par results the boys won their last two games to progress to the semi finals as group runners up.

Once in knock out stages the team never looked back. Although they left it late to secure a 1-0 victory against Holy Trinity, AJ Young in goal was never troubled.

The final finished 0-0 after extra time but it was a game Barnby dominated. Both teams took excellent penalties but the win was secured with two fine saves by AJ.

Well done to all the players.
