Following a lovely day in the Dales and staff vs children rounders (the children won), breakfast this morning was a quieter affair! However, your children are happy and healthy, full of bacon and eggs and ready for our exciting trip to the caves. We should be back at Barnby for about 5pm this afternoon.
This Saturday (7th June), our girls went to Samworth Academy to take on the best "CLUB" teams from the TWO COUNTIES. This is the highest standard of netball in our area and attracts weekend clubs who dominate the counties.
Just look at these scores:
Barny Road 18 - 0 Bramcote
Barnby Road 15 -3 Stapleford Shooters
Barnby Road 12-0 Hucknall Honeys
Barnby Road 11-7 Hucknall Wasps (Current Nottinghamshire Champions)
Ebony Smith went on to win the fair player award chosen by all teams players. Over all the girls scored 56 goals and conceded just 10.
Thank you Rachel Moffoot for driving the bus and Miss Graham going along to help with the scoring. Very proud of these girls playing clubs at an amazing level.

We were proud to host the final round of the Newark & District chess league in our Main Hall yesterday after school. The hall was packed with 24 teams representing 8 different schools. I think many people were surprised by just how big an event this is! Chess is thriving at Barnby and there is a lot of enthusiasm amongst the children.
Lead by John Crawley, Nottinghamshire's chess coach, the event went extremely well with everyone enjoying themselves (and the squash and biscuits served up by Mrs Beckett!). The hall looked amazing, although very quiet and serious!
Barnby Road entered 4 teams and the final results for the season had our 'D' team finishing as overall runners-up. This is an outstanding result, especially considering the team has been made up entirely of year 5s.
Our other 3 teams also finished strongly with final positions for the season being: Barnby 'A' - 6th, Barnby 'B' - 7th, Barnby 'C' - 11th.
Well done and thank you to all our players who have represented the school over the season. Also thank you to all the staff who stayed to help run the event. You know who you are!
What an evening of artistic talents! Music, song, dance ,public speaking, Irish Dance, orchestra, percussion ,strings, flutes, recorders...you name it we showcased it with over 90 children displaying stunning talent. A celebration of Mrs Greeley's music team at its best; Aine's Irish dancers moving with amazing poise and control, our percussion and band team playing their first ever concert; senior choir producing two beautifully performed pieces in two parts, exerts from the Aladdin concert with those two girls blowing us away with their duet; Newark's three 'Musician's of the year' finalists performing faultlessly, Mr Higgins' piano team showing their great progress; Mr Pickersgills' recorders still knocking our socks off after all these years and Mr Barnett's new boy choir singing about their breakfast(as boys would); Mrs Collinson's and Miss Ferris's public speech children reciting their brilliant Wolfit entries ...just wow and more wow!
Barnby Road Arts Team ...stunning, stunning stuff! !
As part of the inter school rounders tournament our A team have done brilliantly this year. They won all games which included winning the final.
The B team played exceptionally well and only lost one game.
Well done to everyone who took part.
