    Wolfit Festival 18th March – 20th March

We are really proud of all the children who took part in this year’s Wolfit festival of Drama and Verse Speaking. This year we had 18 children from Barnby Road take part and we had lots of certificate winners across the year groups!

All the children practised really hard to learn their two poems and they even performed them to the whole school before the Wolfit festival! The children’s performances were of a very high standard and received lots of praise from the adjudicator.

  • Nottinghamshire Indoor Cricket Champions

    Wed 20 Apr 2016 S. Chamberlain

Barnby Road Academy became the 2016 Nottinghamshire Schools Cricket Association indoor county cricket champions, winning the Mick Yard Trophy after a fine performance in the finals which took place in the indoor school at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground on Wednesday 30th March.

The tournament was a county-wide competition with teams representing three separate districts: Nottingham (including Newark), Worksop & Mansfield and Kirkby in Ashfield. 40 teams took part in total.

To reach the county final Barnby Road had to win their district qualifying round before beating Jesse Gray from West Bridgford 138 – 137 and Forest Fields 125 – 114 in the district final on 23rd March.

In the final itself all three qualifying teams played each other, the winner being the team with the most points overall.

Barnby Road produced two outstanding fielding performances to beat St John’s (representing Worksop & Mansfield) 149 – 124 and Annesley Primary (representing Kirkby in Ashfield) 169 – 138.

It is the first time Barnby have won this event and can now claim to be County Indoor Champions in both football and cricket.

The team was Harry Scott (c), Josh Mee, Alfie Horne, Thomas Carter, Sam Greeley, Dean Robinson, Toby White, Jack Oldfield and Harry White.

  • Easter Egg Hunt

    Wed 30 Mar 2016 S. Chamberlain
Many thanks to the Friends group for the super Easter Egg Hunt last Thursday. The children had a wonderful time hunting for the tokens or the other half to their eggs. I have attached some pictures taken during the day.

  • Netballers so close to victory.

    Mon 07 Mar 2016 S. Chamberlain
The netball team were in fine form on Saturday for the spring tournament. They won convincingly in their group with 6 wins out of 6 and without conceding a goal. In the semi finals it was a very tight affair and after a last minute equaliser in normal time they went on to beat Sir Donald Bailey after extra time to reach the final. In the final they were up against Chuter Ede who had beaten them in the Autumn final. They played much better than in the Autumn and took the game into extra time but unfortunately just ran out of steam to lose 2-1. A massive well done to all involved.
  • Music superstars

    Wed 02 Mar 2016 S. Chamberlain
It was a delight to listen to all of the competitors at the heats for the Newark Young Musician of the Year competition last night. The children were all excellent and showed real bravery to play individually in front of such a large audience. We had 20 competitors representing us from Barnby Road and fingers crossed we may have some finalists for next week. A massive well done to all of the children involved.
  • Super Indoor Cricketers

    Thu 25 Feb 2016 S. Chamberlain
A massive well done to the boys indoor cricket team who won their qualifying tournament convincingly and now move in to the last 4 of the Nottinghamshire championships. The boys adapted extremely well to the different demands of indoor cricket which took place at Trent Bridge. Well done to all involved.
  • Swimming Gala

    Mon 08 Feb 2016
A team of 9 boys and 9 girls from year 3 through to year 6 had an excellent morning today at the annual swimming gala held at the Grove Leisure Centre in Balderton. Nine schools from the local area (including Barnby Road) took part in what turned out to be a very close competition. After an outstanding effort from the Barnby Team (and lots of screaming from Mrs Kelly!) the children managed to score 180 points which put them in third place behind Bleasby and the Highfields schools. A massive well done to all the swimmers who took part.
  • Money Spider - Friday 12th February

    Mon 08 Feb 2016 S. Chamberlain
Please don't forget we will be building our money spider on Friday 12th February. It would be great if you could spare some loose change from your 2p and 1p tins to help us with a bit of fun fundraising. Last year we built the super dragon as seen on the accompanying pictures.
  • Cross-Country

    Wed 03 Feb 2016 S. Chamberlain
The children from Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in their third Cross-Country meet last night at an extremely windy and cold Newark Academy. The children were excellent in very demanding conditions and showed great determination. The results will be back in soon and I will make the children aware of their individual times. Well done to all involved.
