On Friday night of last week we took 26 children from year 6 who regularly attend our football clubs to Wembley to watch the England international against Lithuania. It was a great evening with the children really enjoying themselves. The staff had a great time also!! Even though it was a very late night this is something we will look to run again into the future.
It was a pleasure to attend the young musician finals for the Newark area last week. The children in the orchestra and choir were magnificent and represented the school in a very positive light. We also had five individual finalists who all performed brilliantly. Two of the children (Esme Nicholson & Elizabeth Gibson) were celebrated as winners in their respective categories. Well done to all involved a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
The netball team had the last set of league fixtures last night and managed 3 wins and 1 defeat with 2 walkovers because the other schools did not attend. This has given them a final league record of played 15 won 14 and lost 1. We are waiting to see if this is enough to secure the league title but it depends on the outcome of the other games involving the school that beat us last night. Fingers crossed!!
The children involved on the pupil council this year had a wonderful visit to County Hall yesterday to look around the building and meet the current chairman of the councillors. It was a great visit with the children excellently behaved and asking some very good questions about the role of a councillor.
The girls took part in the spring netball tournament on Saturday. They won their group convincingly winning every game in their league. In the quarter finals they beat a determined Chuter Ede team to progress to the semis. Unfortunately they met a very strong Highfields team who went 3-0 up very quickly. We managed to peg them back to 3-2 but couldn't find that extra goal to take it to extra time. The day did finish on a positive though with the girls coming out on top against Bishop Alexander in the 3rd/4th place play off. Great job to all involved.
A big well done to all of the children who took part in the heats for the Newark young musician of the year award. The children performed excellently and were a credit to the school. Hopefully some of them may make it through to the finals.
The girls were unfortunately knocked out of the county cup on Friday evening in the girls football. They came up against a very good West Bridgford side who played some excellent football. The girls kept battling right up until the final whistle and never gave up. Well done to all of the girls involved.
