  • FOOTBALLERS MAKE SPRING FINAL!

    Mon 31 Mar 2014

Our footballers have been improving "Hand over fist" since Christmas and had a wonderful tournament at the NDPSSA saw us qualifying runners up in our league with a fantastic 16 points from seven games. The semi was a tight affair against Lowes Wong(who must be getting fed up of us ruining their season), it went to penalties and AJ pulled off a wonderful save after a fantastic run of excellent penalties from our boys to put us in the final. Coddington are having a strong season this year and in the first half we went down to a goal that only goal line Technology could have proved either way (no ones fault!). Coddington pushed on hard in the second half and we were defeated 3-0 in the end...but we were over the moon to have done so well and Runners up in Newark and District this year is no mean feat! Well done: AJ, Oliver, Harry, Henry, Joshua, Addy, Michael and Jake!

Another great sporting morning at Flowserve!

  • WOLFIT SPEECH AND DRAMA RESULTS

    Mon 31 Mar 2014

Twenty one entrants for the school this year, our highest ever number in this very competitive competition. The club have worked hard all term practiscing their set poems and pieces. Special thanks to Emma Ferris and Laura Collinson for their coaching and to the parents who support them so well.

Three days of entrants and a lot more privately tutored entrants entering individually this year but that didn't stop us picking up some fantastic results and we think having the confidence to actually enter and learn poems off by heart is a triumph in itself.

    Certificate winners in their class:

!st Holly Hunt, 2nds- Rhys Brompton, Thomas Linford, Maisie Donald,Abby-Faith Baker. 3rds Thomas Carter ,Maizie Harrison Goodger, Moly Prowse and Julia Higgins.

  • YOUNG MUSICIANS TRIUMPH!

    Thu 27 Mar 2014 K.Eveleigh

Congratulations to all our young musicians who entered the Newark Young Musician Competition over the past week.

We had four performances in the final last night at the BarnbyGate Methodist Church; Julia Higgins on cello playing 'Bourree by Muffat' and on tenor recorder playing "Shrimp in the Shade" by Sarah Watts. Benjamin Tranter on violin  playing 'Full Moon' by K&H Colledge  and  Teegan  Harrison -Goodger on descant recorder playing "Goings on"-by Sarah Watts.

The standard was very high and there were only 17 finalists selected from all those children who started out in Newark. Julia was on first and played a 'blinder' with a stunningly beautiful recital on her cello (when it's good you can hear a hush in the audience), then it was Benjamin on violin and again he was brilliant (even though he is his own worst critic, Ben you're great !), Julia again (the only Newark child to make the final in two classes) on recorder ,showing her fantastic versatility . Finally Teegan, whose use of tone, her interpretation and sensitivity to the piece simply 'Wowed' judges and audience'.

In the meantime our orchestra had opened with two lovely pieces, such a big orchestra now with added percussion . The choir soared to new heights with two breathtaking pieces sung in two parts, with an opening solo from Lucy Brown in 'Winter Lights' and 'I don't want to live on the Moon' (I was crying inside, beautiful pieces!). The judges went out to deliberate , came in to give all the competitors their finalist medals.

    Then the anouncements:

Julia Higgins third place...Teegan Harrison-Goodger second place and an undeniably brilliant pianist from Norwell first. A proud evening for Mrs Greeley and Mr Higgins ( brilliant accompanist on piano), Miss Hasche (they work so hard for your children ) and we should never forget Mr Pickersgill for all his recorder work...our school now well established for consistent musical excellence in Newark and our Academy Free Tuition  policy in it's second year of turning out great musicians.

WE ARE MASSIVELY PROUD OF YOU ALL  CHILDREN AND STAFF!

  • CHILDREN GO TO HORNCASTLE TO SEE "BARNBY BLAST" ON PRESSES!

    Wed 26 Mar 2014

What a visit! The year five media group were guests of Joanna Parlby the owner of the Advertiser at The Morton Press Printing Company in Horncastle. We had an executive tour of the whole factory ,past the 10 tonne ink tanks into the amazing factory floor. They print hundreds of newspapers a week for countries as far as China and Mauritius. We watched as our "Barnby Blast" was transferred from computer to the print plates ,then to the massive mill. We had to wait while they set up our Newspaper and prepared the huge presses and then watched as our copies suddenly came flying out of the presses on a huge conveyor of clips holding each one at over 30 miles an hour! From the start of our press run to the stacked newspapers all tied up and ready to go on the vans was about three minutes!

The lucky children have experienced every single aspect of journalism in their club, from reporting, photographing ,interviewing ,writing, editing to the mill and the final print run. We even sold advertising space! Everyone in Newark will get a free "Barnby Blast" in their Advertiser tomorrow and we will begin our selling extravaganza!

What an experience! The children are: Louis ,Eve, Sophie, William, Olivia, Emilie, Chantelle, Matthew and Rhys !

  • Chess teams 'check-in' at Collingham

Wed 26 Mar 2014 Mr Barbuti

The Barnby Road chess teams competed in the spring term round of the Newark District School's chess league which took place at John Blow School, Collingham last night.

As in the previous round we were able to enter four very strong teams. Teams from 8 different schools took part, involving 22 teams in total. This event is an opportunity to meet people from schools we do not usually come across such as Kneesall, Flintham and Sutton on Trent and for different children to represent Barnby Road.

All the teams performed well; special mention should go to the 'D' team (made up entirely of year 5 grandmasters of the future: Louis Ketley, Thomas Linford, Josh Ridyard & Lucy Finch) who are currently our top-performing team. They sit 4th in the overall table, 1/2 point behind 3rd place.

Special mentions also to individuals who won a medal for winning all 3 of their matches on the evening: Arjun Prakash, Jack Hatfield, Thomas Linford and Josh Ridyard. Well done boys.

The final round will take place in the summer term.

  • NETBALLERS WIN LEAGUE: PERFECT RECORD!

    Mon 24 Mar 2014

    Dear Parents, Carers and Grandparents,

I wish to draw your attention to the wonderful, (no!) ‘Perfect’ season of our hardworking girl netballers and their coaching team this year. I have run sports associations for most of my career and never witnessed a phenomenon such as this. Netball is one of the NDPSSA’S biggest competitions with fifteen schools competing throughout the year for three Newark titles. Look at this:

    1. Unbeaten in any competition in 35 games!
    2. NDPSSA Autumn Champions 2013/14 (B team Runners up!)
    3. NDPSSA  Spring Champions 2013/14
    4. NDPSSA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2013/14:

    Plyd

    Won

    Drawn

    Lost

    Goals For

    Goals Against

    Points

    14

    14

    0

    0

    73

    3

    70

If you add in the number of weekend tournament matches unbeaten, you get this record for the season:

    Plyd

    Won

    Drawn

    Lost

    Goals For

    Goals Against

    Points

    35

    35

    0

    0

    146

    6

    175

Never seen this before in any school sport, probably never again. No stars, no six footers, just a fabulous squad and team whose netball is fluid, everybody running off everyone else, to receive and pass from end to end. Their net opportunities against goals scored % compares favourably to the statistics of any adult national league team.

    The Team and coaches are:

Abbie Mofoot    Libby Johnson    Ebony Smith   Millie Warren  Mia Lloyd

Lylah Hall    Rosie Pitchford   Laura Kelly   Mollie Hill     Sheena Kelly   Sarah Gore

Out there all year training hard every Tuesday night, taking nothing for granted and playing in a friendly, sporting manner. What an amazing year and thank you to you all. The school and I hope the community too will join with me in saying how immensely proud we are of you. A truly amazing season for a great group of girls.

  • FOOTBALLERS ADVANCE TO COUNTY QUARTER-FINALS

Wed 19 Mar 2014 Matt Barbuti
Last night saw the A team advance to the quarter finals of the Notts County Cup for the second year in succession. Current cup holders, Cotgrave Candleby Lane, were beaten by a rampant Barnby Road team. We now wait to see who we are drawn against in the next round.
  • NETBALLERS NEWARK CHAMPS AGAIN!

    Mon 17 Mar 2014

This Saturday morning we took our two netball teams to the Spring NDPSSA tournament. Fourteen schools and two B teams were represented from Newark. The last minute girls B team were standing in for Lovers Lane who had dropped out on Friday evening. The B team managed two draws and a win and just failed to qualify for the group stages but what a performance from a "Scratch " side lead by Rosie!

The A team were at their best scoring over 30 goals without reply in their six qualifying matches! They then beat a good John Hunt side 7-0 in the quarter final, Winthorpe 5-0 in their Semi .

The final was against an unbeaten Highfields side who were on top of their form. It was the toughest game of our morning and Highfields centres were on good form disrupting our quick moving game. Half time saw us taking a 2-0 lead before our final rotation. The second half was tight but we managed one more goal. Highfields then came back at us and scored the first goal against us in the tournament, they threatened to go to 2-3 but for some great defending. It proved to be the one and only goal conceded and we went on to clinch the Spring tournament 3-1 to go with our win in the Autumn  tournament. The girls completing their 31st game without defeat in what could prove the perfect season. They have five more games this week to clinch the Full league title. Their play was exhibition stuff and the fluency coached into them a fantastic credit to the three school coaches. Great Job girls: Ebony, Mia, Abbie, Mollie, Lyla, Millie, Libby. WHAT A TEAM!
