  • Phil Shephard and Tony Roberts win Local Awards

    Wed 30 Apr 2014

    Two Newark Community Awards...wow!

I've always said our Trustees are real community people. Two of them received Newark Awards for their brilliant service in Newark last Friday.

Tony Roberts was nominated for his "Life Time Service" to Newark people. Yet another honour to go with his CBE. Tony puts his heart into all aspects of Newark life but still finds time to give us a morning a week with our younger readers. Well deserved Tony!

What can anyone say about Phil Shephard? The man is a "Giver" and everyone's first port of call for help with just about anything. Phil devotes many, many extra hours beyond his job description as "Site Manager", be it sport or concerts, whenever an extra pair of hands is needed you know he'll be there for you. Abigail and William Parsons nominated him for "Services to Education" but you could nominate him for any of a million things.

I'm retiring but ,"My goodness!" your school is in great hands with those two!

  • Brazilian beats & Samba sounds

Wed 02 Apr 2014 Mr Barbuti
The school was rocking yesterday afternoon to the beat of samba drums. Year 6 had an amazing 'Brazil Day' spending the morning making 'Day of the Dead' and carnival masks (pictures coming soon to class pages), followed by an afternoon of Capoeira (Brazilian marshal art & dancing combination) and samba drumming. I don't think anyone knew quite how much noise we could make, but if they were in any doubt they will know now! Sessions were led by Kay Cowling, head of dance at The Magnus, and Adam from the Nottingham School of Samba. Pictures can be seen on the year 6 pages. We can't wait till next year!
