Welfare and changes in circumstances

We are aware that the current situation has affected many families and some families have found themselves in a difficult position financially. We have been able to help some of our families by supporting with benefit claims and food parcels. There is a range of support available for those who are struggling and those who are entitled to universal credit are also entitled to free school meals. Please advise us if your circumstances have changed and you are in need of support and we will do our best to help.

Home Learning

As you will be aware, we have refocussed our home learning away from Purple Mash and more towards Oak National Academy and BBC Bitesize, as well as keeping the learning going for MyMaths and TTRS/Numbots. Each year group is also providing a fortnightly home learning grid with guidance on spelling, handwriting, reading and topic activities. A teacher will also be monitoring the Purple Mash blog/Tapestry on a daily, often twice daily, basis; they are really keen to hear from your child, or you, about the learning, or just to simply keep in touch and answer any queries.

We understand that some parents and children are missing the Purple Mash activities. Our dilemma is that we now have most teaching staff in school, teaching the 'bubbles' of children, as directed by the government. We now only have a small number of staff available to run our home learning. For this reason the government have actively promoted the excellent BBC Bitesize and Oak National Academy to support home learning, as the majority of teaching staff are needed in school. The level of home learning set and marked by teachers can never match the amount set prior to our wider opening on June 1st. We wish we could offer more.

Please encourage your children to check the blog daily and keep up with their learning tasks, both online and from their year group grid. Also remember, involving children in the daily routines and running of a house and garden are good learning opportunities.

We have had a great day at Barnby Road, welcoming lots of children back to school. The children were all happy to be back and adjusted well to the new routines. Thank you to all parents/carers for supporting us by following our new routines for drop off/pick up to keep everyone safe. 😀

June 1st Reopening Reminder

Children MUST bring a named water bottle with them every day. Looking at the weather forecast, long lasting sun cream should also be applied in the morning! ☀️

Home Learning from June 1st

If your child is not returning to school tomorrow, fortnightly home learning activity grids can be found on our school website, using the link below. Please scroll to the bottom of the page and click on your child's year group.

Oak National Academy and BBC Bitesize are recommended by the DfE and contain daily Maths, English and Topic lessons for children in all year groups. We highly recommend children access these at home.

Tapestry and the Purple Mash blogs will also be monitored daily by one of our teachers, as a way of children at home keeping in touch with school.

June 1st Information

We are opening on Monday 1st June to children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 6 and key worker children who have already informed the school office (or completed the survey). Please DO NOT turn up with your child on Monday if you have not informed us they will be returning.

Here is some key information to remember if your child is returning on Monday:

Children should wear uniform with trainers, or a similar item if they have outgrown their uniform.
Children may only bring the following to school:

- a water bottle (ALL children must bring one each day)

- lunch box (if needed)

- coat/sunhat dependent on the weather

- a bag of spare clothes to remain at school for the week (if children have daily accidents)

All messages for teachers/the office MUST be via email or phone. Parents/carers will not be permitted to approach classrooms or the school office.
Any children who will be accessing breakfast club MUST be booked in through the office. DO NOT just turn up for breakfast club as we will be unable to cater for you.
If your child, or anyone in their household, is showing symptoms of Coronavirus you MUST NOT enter the school site. You should follow government advice regarding self-isolation.
You MUST enter the school site through your designated gate, within your staggered time, and follow the one-way system. 2 metre social distancing MUST be followed at ALL times.

The following provides an overview of drop-off times and places for each year group:

June 1st partial re-opening

Following the government briefing, we will be partially re-opening on Monday 1st June.

This will only be to the children who have confirmed they are returning. If you change your mind about sending your child to school you MUST contact the school office to inform us, to allow time for us to adapt our plans to accommodate them.

We have updated our FAQs. Please make sure you have read this information, and watched the appropriate videos, before you send your child on Monday. This will ensure you understand the new rules and routines that will be in place from Monday.

Year 1 classrooms from June 1st
