  • Staff Complete 2014 Curriculum Topic Plans

    Fri 14 Mar 2014 Kevin

If you go to your child's class pages you can view next year's Cross curricular topic overviews which are adjusted and modified to meet the Governments new National Curriculum in 2014. Our new format has been adopted by all year groups so that parents can get a great generic overview. These topics are largely History, Science or Geography based. Separate Numeracy ,Literacy, RE,PE coverage will follow as we prepare to meet the demands of the new national Curriculum. Staff are working hard and long hours to furnish the children with the best opportunities within and without the new national curriculum. Mrs Linford lead a full INSET day to launch our new Maths national curriculum last month and our staff meetings are currently all about maths. Next term the staff move on to the really big one "Literacy". By July 2014 we will have planning in all our new curriculum planning areas "teacher ready" . Our new MFL to replace Spanish will be French!

  • PARENTS' EVENINGS CAN WE DO 100% AGAIN?

    Wed 05 Mar 2014

At Barnby Road Academy our parents value their child's education and "boy" does it pay off. Our intake is on the 49th percentile of national deprivation (Average) yet our children perform in the highest 20% and often 10% of schools in this nation. That's special and it's because teachers, children and parents value education so highly in our community and parents commit to supporting homework and reading in such a fantastic manner. Parents' evenings are vital in this partnership and our teachers are told to pursue all parents and achieve 100% attendance.

DON'T DISAPPOINT YOUR CHILD, MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR PARENTS' EVENING !

  • INDOOR ATHLETES 7th IN NOTTS.

    Wed 05 Mar 2014

Last Friday saw our great indoor athletics team go to the finals with the last eight schools from over 2000 schools entering representing their areas. We had won the Magnus finals and gone on to win the Newark and Sherwood finals to qualify. We were entertained by dancers and inspired by our Olympic Gold Medal Paired Kayak Slalom team at Nottingham University. The competition was incredibly tough and at this standard you are against children who regularly run or jump in athletics clubs, but we managed a fantastic seventh. That's seventh best in Nottinghamshire and cause for immense pride.

Well done Phil, Steve and Holly, who go that extra mile to train up our teams to such a standard and of course, our brilliant squad who gave their all. Great job!

  • Brilliant Concert 70 children ,Wow!

    Tue 11 Feb 2014
A big thanks to the orchestra, recorders and our many tuition children for their great concert on Sunday afternoon at Barnby Gate church. A fantastic audience of parents and friends witnessed the growing success of our "Music School". The Orchestra is going from strength to strength and has a massive 45 members...I don't think I know of another primary school with one that large. The support Mrs Greeley has garnered from staff, t uition teachers and TA's is truly brilliant. Both choirs performed and it was a first outing for our year three recorder players- over 20 children performed under the direction of Mrs Linford. A number of children performed solos too...cello, flute, piano and percussion. At the Barnby Road Academy we have invested heavily in our music school and tuition and boy can you see it paying off! Special thanks to Mr Higgins for arranging this one.
